THE GENERAL’S WIFE
Episode 8
Teni’s hands trembled as she stared at the medical report.
Kola was infertile.
He had always known the baby wasn’t his.
So why had he waited this long to confront her? Why had he pretended to believe the child was his when he knew it was impossible?
A cold chill ran down her spine.
She had to find out.
Slowly, she stepped out of the bedroom and made her way downstairs.
Kola was sitting on the couch, staring blankly at the television, a glass of whiskey in his hand.
She took a deep breath and spoke. “Kola.”
He didn’t look at her. “What do you want, Teni?”
She clenched the medical report in her hands. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Kola’s fingers tightened around his glass. “Tell you what?”
“That you can’t have children,” she whispered.
Kola’s jaw tensed. For a long moment, he didn’t say anything. Then, without turning his head, he asked, “Where did you find that?”
“In our room,” Teni replied, her voice shaking.
Kola let out a humorless chuckle. “So you’ve been going through my things now?”
Teni ignored his sarcasm. “You knew all along, Kola. You knew the baby wasn’t yours. So why did you act like you believed me?”
Kola slowly turned his head, his eyes locking onto hers. “Because I wanted to see how far you would take your lies.”
Teni felt her stomach twist. “Kola, please, I didn’t mean to hurt you—”
“But you did,” he cut in sharply. “You destroyed everything we had.”
Teni swallowed hard. “So what happens now?”
Kola took a deep sip of his drink and set the glass down. Then he stood up and walked toward her.
“You’re leaving,” he said.
Teni shook her head. “Kola, please—”
“There is no ‘please’ anymore, Teni,” he said, his voice like steel. “You made your choice the day you laid with Richard.”
Teni grabbed his arm. “Kola, I love you!”
He looked down at her hand on his arm, then back into her eyes. “You should have thought about that before you betrayed me.”
Teni broke down into sobs. “I made a mistake!”
Kola leaned in close, his breath warm against her cheek. “You didn’t just make a mistake, Teni. You made an enemy.”
A sharp fear stabbed through Teni’s chest.
She pulled back. “What do you mean?”
Kola smiled, but it wasn’t a smile of warmth. It was cold. Dangerous.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
Then, without another word, he turned and walked out of the house, leaving her standing there, shaking.
Teni spent the rest of the evening packing her bags. She had no choice but to leave before Kola did something drastic.
She had seen the look in his eyes—he was planning something.
But just as she was zipping up her suitcase, she heard a knock on the door.
Her heart jumped. Was it Kola? Had he returned?
She hesitated before walking toward the door and opening it.
Her eyes widened in shock.
It was Richard.
He looked terrible—his shirt was wrinkled, his eyes bloodshot, and his face covered in sweat.
“Richard,” she whispered. “What are you doing here?”
He pushed past her into the house and shut the door behind him.
“Teni, we have a problem,” he said, his voice urgent.
Teni frowned. “What are you talking about?”
Richard ran a hand through his hair. “Kola came to see me.”
Teni’s breath caught in her throat. “What?”
“He threatened me,” Richard continued. “He said he would destroy me for what I did to him.”
Teni’s heart pounded. “Oh my God…”
Richard grabbed her shoulders. “Teni, listen to me. We need to leave—now. Kola isn’t going to let this go.”
Teni shook her head. “I… I can’t just run away, Richard.”
Richard’s eyes burned with desperation. “If we don’t, he will make us suffer.”
Teni hesitated. Running away would mean leaving behind everything—her home, her life, everything she had built.
But could she really stay and face Kola’s wrath?
Before she could answer, the sound of a car engine rumbled outside.
Teni and Richard froze.
They turned toward the window and peeked outside.
A black SUV was parked in front of the house.
Kola stepped out of the car.
But he wasn’t alone.
Four heavily armed soldiers followed behind him.
Teni’s blood turned to ice.
“Kola brought the army,” Richard whispered.
Teni’s hands started shaking. “Oh my God. What do we do?”
Richard grabbed her hand. “We run.”
But before they could move, the front door burst open.
Kola stepped inside, his soldiers right behind him.
His eyes locked onto Teni’s.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he said.
Teni’s heart stopped.
And at that moment, she realized…
The war had just begun.
