THE GENERAL’S WIFE
Episode 6
Her mind kept going back to the message she had received. Who was it from? Was it Richard? Or someone else who knew about her secret?
By morning, her hands were shaking so badly that she could barely hold her spoon as she ate breakfast with Kola.
“Are you okay?” Kola asked, watching her closely.
Teni forced a smile. “Yes, just tired.”
Kola nodded but kept his eyes on her.
Teni knew she had to be careful. If Kola noticed her nervousness, he would start asking questions. And she couldn’t afford that.
At exactly 3 PM, she sneaked out of the house and took a taxi to the old restaurant by the market. It was a small, quiet place where she and Richard used to meet years ago when they were just friends.
She entered cautiously, looking around.
Then she saw him.
It wasn’t Richard.
It was Major Hassan.
Kola’s best friend.
Teni’s breath caught in her throat.
Why was he here?
And more importantly… what did he know?
Teni hesitated before walking toward Hassan’s table. Her heart pounded in her chest as she sat down.
“Good afternoon, Major,” she said, forcing a smile.
Hassan didn’t return the smile. He just stared at her, his eyes dark and unreadable. “Teni, you and I both know why I called you here.”
Teni swallowed hard. “I… I don’t know what you mean.”
Hassan sighed, leaning forward. “Listen to me carefully. Kola asked me to investigate you.”
Teni’s blood ran cold.
Hassan continued. “So far, I haven’t found anything… yet. But if I dig deeper, I will. And when I do, Kola will know everything.”
Teni’s hands trembled under the table. “Why are you telling me this?”
Hassan exhaled. “Because Kola is my brother. And I don’t want to see him hurt. But more than that, I don’t want to see what he’ll do if he finds out the truth.”
Teni’s mouth felt dry. “What… what will he do?”
Hassan’s face was grim. “You know the kind of man he is. If he finds out you’ve been unfaithful… Teni, I can’t protect you.”
Teni closed her eyes, a wave of fear crashing over her.
Hassan leaned in. “If you have any sense left, you will fix this before it’s too late.”
Teni opened her eyes, desperation filling her voice. “But how? How do I fix this?”
Hassan shook his head. “That’s up to you. But whatever you do, do it fast.”
He stood up, threw some money on the table, and walked away.
Teni sat there, frozen.
The walls were closing in.
She had to act now… before Kola uncovered the truth himself.
That night, as Teni sat alone in the living room, her phone buzzed again.
Another message.
Richard: “I need to see you. Urgent.”
Teni’s heart raced. After all this time, Richard was reaching out?
She hesitated, then replied.
Teni: “Where?”
Richard: “Same place. Tomorrow. 8 AM.”
Teni clenched her phone in her hands.
Richard had disappeared for weeks. Why was he suddenly back?
And why now, when things were falling apart?
The next morning, as Teni got dressed to leave the house, she found Kola sitting at the dining table, staring at her.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
Teni forced a smile. “I just want to get some fresh air. Maybe go to the market.”
Kola’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Alone?”
Teni’s hands felt sweaty. “Yes. I’ll be back soon.”
Kola nodded but didn’t say anything.
Teni grabbed her bag and hurried out before he could ask more questions.
But she didn’t know that the moment she stepped out of the house, Kola picked up his phone and dialed a number.
“Hassan,” he said. “Follow her.”
Teni arrived at the restaurant and found Richard waiting for her. He looked different—tired, worried.
She sat across from him. “Richard, what is it?”
Richard sighed. “Teni, I can’t stay quiet anymore.”
Teni’s stomach twisted. “What do you mean?”
Richard grabbed her hand. “I love you, Teni. I always have. And I know I made a mistake, but I can’t pretend like I don’t care about you and the baby.”
Teni pulled her hand away. “Richard, stop—”
But Richard wasn’t listening. “Leave Kola,” he said. “Come with me. We can go far away, start a new life. Just you, me, and our baby.”
Teni’s eyes widened in shock. “Are you crazy? I can’t do that!”
Richard leaned forward. “Why not? You know this will end badly if Kola finds out. You and I both know what kind of man he is.”
Teni shook her head. “Richard, running away will only make things worse.”
But before Richard could respond, a voice interrupted them.
“Interesting conversation.”
Teni’s body went cold.
She turned slowly…
And saw Kola standing there.
His face was unreadable. His hands were in his pockets, his posture calm.
But his eyes…
His eyes burned with fire.
Richard swallowed hard and stood up. “K-Kola—”
“Sit down,” Kola said, his voice deadly quiet.
Richard hesitated, but the look on Kola’s face made him obey.
Teni’s heart pounded so loudly she thought it would burst.
Kola walked forward, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
Then, without breaking eye contact with her, he asked the question she had been dreading for months.
“Is it true, Teni?”
Her whole world came crashing down.
