THE GENERAL’S WIFE: Episode 5

THE GENERAL’S WIFE
Episode 5

Kola didn’t push the issue any further that night, but Teni could feel his eyes on her constantly. He was watching her every move, studying her like a soldier examining an enemy’s weaknesses.

And that terrified her.

For the next few days, Teni tried her best to act normal. She smiled when necessary, made his favorite meals, and avoided anything that could raise more suspicion. But deep inside, she knew it was only a matter of time before Kola discovered the truth.

Because Kola was not just any man.

He was an army general.

And army generals always found the truth.

One morning, Kola woke up early and got dressed in casual clothes instead of his uniform. Teni was still in bed when he tapped her gently.

“Wake up, my love,” he said.

Teni rubbed her eyes. “What’s wrong?”

Kola smiled. “We’re going to the hospital.”

Teni’s body went stiff. “Hospital? Why?”

Kola sat on the edge of the bed. “Because I’m not convinced that you’re just ‘stressed.’ You’ve been avoiding this conversation, but I need to know that you’re truly okay.”

Teni’s mind raced. If she went to the hospital, the doctor would confirm that she was pregnant. And if Kola heard that news from a stranger instead of her, the situation would become even worse.

She had to think fast.

She forced a weak smile and touched her stomach. “Kola, I think you’re right.”

Kola frowned. “About what?”

She sighed. “I think I might be pregnant.”

Kola’s face changed instantly. His eyes widened with a mix of shock and happiness. “You… you mean it?”

Teni nodded slowly. “Yes. But I wanted to be sure before telling you.”

Kola exhaled sharply, rubbing his face. “God, Teni… do you know how long I’ve prayed for this?” He pulled her into a tight hug. “You’ve made me the happiest man alive.”

Teni felt like she was suffocating.

Kola was overjoyed, but he didn’t know the truth. He didn’t know that the child growing inside her was another man’s.

And the worst part?

She had just made things even harder for herself.

Now that Kola believed she was pregnant with his child, he became more caring than ever. He refused to let her do house chores, insisted she rested, and even started planning baby names.

It was unbearable.

Teni felt like she was living in a nightmare. Every time Kola kissed her belly or talked about how excited he was to be a father, she wanted to scream.

And Richard?

He had completely disappeared. He hadn’t called, texted, or tried to see her since Kola’s return. It was as if he had vanished from her life completely.

Which was exactly what she wanted.

Or at least… that’s what she told herself.

One evening, as Teni was lying on the couch, Kola sat beside her and gently placed his hand on her belly.

“I can’t wait to meet our child,” he whispered.

Teni forced a smile. “Me too.”

Kola was silent for a moment before he said, “I was thinking… maybe I should take some time off work. So I can be here with you.”

Teni’s heart skipped a beat. “You don’t have to do that. I’m fine.”

Kola smiled. “I know you are. But I don’t want to miss anything.”

Teni swallowed. If Kola stayed home more often, her chances of keeping the truth hidden would become even slimmer.

She needed to distract him.

“Kola,” she said, touching his arm. “You love your job. And I don’t want you to put your career on hold because of me.”

Kola nodded slowly. “Alright. But I want to be involved in everything. Doctor’s appointments, baby shopping, everything.”

Teni’s stomach twisted.

“Of course,” she whispered.

But Kola was already making plans. The next morning, he visited an old friend of his—Major Hassan, a military intelligence officer.

“Hassan, I need you to find out something for me,” Kola said, his expression serious.

“What is it?” Hassan asked.

Kola sighed. “I want you to investigate my wife’s movements in the past few months.”

Hassan frowned. “Kola, are you suspecting something?”

Kola rubbed his temples. “I don’t know, Hassan. Something doesn’t feel right. She’s acting strange, avoiding questions… and now she’s suddenly pregnant?”

Hassan nodded. “I’ll see what I can find.”

Kola shook his friend’s hand. “Thank you.”

Deep inside, he prayed he was wrong.

Because if his suspicions were right…

Someone was going to pay.

That night, Teni was lying in bed when her phone buzzed.

It was a text message.

Unknown Number: “We need to talk. It’s urgent.”

Her heart pounded. Could it be Richard?

She quickly replied.

Teni: “Who is this?”

Unknown Number: “Meet me tomorrow. 3 PM. The old restaurant by the market.”

Teni’s hands trembled as she stared at the message.

Who was this person?

And what did they know?

One thing was clear—this wasn’t over yet.

The real storm was only beginning.
