THE GENERAL’S WIFE
Episode 16
Teni sat frozen, Daniel’s words ringing in her ears.
Kola wanted to take her child.
Her heart pounded as fear gripped her chest.
“No,” she whispered. “He can’t do this, Daniel.”
Daniel’s grip tightened around her hands. “We won’t let him, Teni. But we have to act fast.”
Teni’s mind raced.
Kola was a powerful general with connections. If he wanted to win a custody battle, he could easily manipulate the system in his favor.
Her stomach twisted in dread.
“Jide is on his way here,” Daniel continued. “We need to figure out our next move.”
Teni nodded numbly, her thoughts clouded with panic.
How had things come to this?
She had barely escaped Kola’s grip, and now he was coming for her child.
Her everything.
Teni clenched her fists.
She wouldn’t let him win.
Not this time.
Meanwhile, at his mansion, Kola sat across from Chief Ayodele, an influential businessman with deep political ties.
Ayodele sipped his whiskey, watching Kola with interest. “So, you want full custody of the child?”
Kola nodded. “I won’t let Teni raise my son with another man.”
Ayodele smirked. “I assume you have a plan?”
Kola leaned back. “Of course. I’ve already spoken to a judge who is sympathetic to my cause. With my influence and the right evidence, I can prove Teni is an unfit mother.”
Ayodele raised an eyebrow. “What kind of evidence?”
Kola’s lips curled. “Teni has been living with another man while still legally married to me. That alone is enough to question her character.”
Ayodele chuckled. “You’re a dangerous man, Kola.”
Kola’s eyes darkened. “When it comes to my child, I will do whatever it takes.”
Jide arrived at Daniel’s apartment an hour later, his face grim.
“We have a serious problem,” he said, handing Daniel a document.
Teni’s hands shook as she read the bold letters at the top.
CUSTODY PETITION – GENERAL KOLA ADELEKE VS. TENIOLA ADELEKE
Teni’s breath hitched. “He’s serious.”
Jide nodded. “And he’s moving fast. The court hearing is in three days.”
Teni’s mind spiraled. “Three days? That’s not enough time!”
Jide exhaled. “Kola is using his connections to speed up the process. He wants to catch you off guard.”
Teni’s hands clenched around the document.
She wasn’t going to let him win.
She looked at Jide, her eyes burning with determination. “What do I need to do?”
The next day, Daniel and Teni met with a top lawyer, Barrister Funmi Ogunleye, a fierce woman known for taking on powerful men.
After listening to their story, Funmi leaned back in her chair.
“This will be a tough case,” she admitted. “Kola has power, influence, and the image of a responsible father.”
Teni’s voice cracked. “But he’s not a good father. He only wants my son to punish me!”
Funmi’s eyes softened. “I believe you, but the court needs hard evidence. Do you have anything to prove Kola is unfit?”
Teni hesitated.
Kola had abused her emotionally, but there were no records of physical harm.
Daniel spoke up. “What about the fact that he kidnapped Teni?”
Funmi sighed. “Without a police report or a witness statement, that claim won’t hold in court.”
Teni’s heart sank.
How could she fight a man who had the entire system on his side?
Funmi tapped her pen on the table. “The only way to win is to prove that the child is better off with you than with Kola.”
Teni nodded firmly. “Then that’s exactly what we’ll do.”
Later that night, Teni scrolled through social media, trying to distract herself.
Then she froze.
A post from a popular news blog caught her eye.
“BREAKING: General Kola Adeleke Files for Custody of His Son, Claims His Wife Abandoned Their Marriage to Be With Another Man.”
Teni’s stomach dropped.
The article painted her as a reckless woman who left her husband and ran into another man’s arms.
The worst part?
People in the comments believed it.
“A shameless woman!”
“She cheated on a war hero? Despicable!”
“Kola deserves his child! No responsible man would let his wife disgrace him like this.”
Teni’s hands shook as tears filled her eyes.
Daniel saw the post and cursed. “He’s controlling the public narrative.”
Teni clenched her jaw. “He’s turning the world against me.”
Daniel took her hand. “Then we fight back.”
Teni wiped her tears and nodded.
If Kola wanted a war, she would give him one.
